Pleasant decor, good levels of lighting and well spaced out tables so you're not in all the other customers' space..
Quite slow to acknowledge my arrival due to a lack of serving staff (it was a Wednesday evening, to be fair) but once proceedings were underway all was good despite the shakey start.
Refrigerated water (filtered tap I suspect because there was no smell tor odd flavour to it) in the styliest jug I've ever seen at an Indian restaurant and perfectly salted poppadoms with cumin seeds (which I love) brought with the menu.
After a little deliberation I settled on the Chilli Chicken entree and the Lamb Do Piaza (Hot). They have the Kingfisher Strong beer even though it's not actually listed on the drinks menu so, of course, that was a must.
The plates were pre-heated and delivered just prior to the course's arrival.
Starting with the Chilli Chicken proved to be a master stroke. It was a little salty, even for me, but I could look past that as it was still delicious with the red and green capsicum and onion. I was really looking forward to the main.
It arrived promptly and emitted all the right smells. The taste was no disappointment either. Delicious! Hot was actually proper hot for a change. A smidgeon too much cumin in the spice mix but not overpowering. Nice, tender lamb pieces in the right proportion to the sauce.
Negatives:
Nothing serious.Glass over the tablecloth which is only one up from paper. The counter telephone ring is a little intrusive (but fortunately the music is not). The TV was streaming YouTube cricket until it stopped and that went unnoticed by the staff. But I guess you don't go to Indian restaurants for TV. And I got so tired of waiting for them to come and clear the mains plate so I could order a Mango Kulfi dessert that I gave up and paid and left without. I did make brief eye contact with the serving staff on a couple of occasions, as expertly as they avoided doing so, but my intent went unnoticed. I'm not so uncouth as to raise a hand and wave like I'm back in primary school.
All-in-all this now my go-to west Auckland Indian but in future I'll be sitting where I can grab their attention when the need arises.
I can’t fault the food! Huge amount of flavour
My favourite is the chilli chicken entree and the naan bread is the best I’ve ever had!!
It’s just really lacking in decor and cleanliness!
With abit of modernisation and a good scrub down this place would be amazing
We had dinner at Mirchi's and absolutely loved the food and the Ambience. The food was divine and cooked to perfection. The staff was very polite. I would recommend all curry lovers to give this place a try. We are definitely going back
